Guest Post - Chanel Polish for £2.95?!

Today's post comes courtesy of the lovely Fern from Fernlaura...

Take it away Fern...

Whilst I was rifling through my Barry M nail paint colllection, I came across 'blueberry icecream' - a shade I had bought early in the year due to special offers on Barry M nail paints - that is safe to say my most neglected shade. It suddenly struck me that the shade, a pretty pastely blue (not like blueberries at all though?!) was very very similar to the Chanel 'Dusky Sky Blue' polish which I had been lusting after a few days previously - of course the only difference being, Chanel = around £25 and Barry M = £2.95! Here's Barry M Blueberry Icecream in all it's glory:

So as you can see they're pretty similar, perhaps not exact but very close - and with around a £21 difference - you really can't go wrong! You can buy Barry M cosmetics at Boots and Superdrug - look out for the awesome offers on nail paints like 2 for £5 etc!

Thanks for letting me do this guest post Deb, hope everyone enjoyed it!

Thanks so much for guest posting on my blog Fern.

Palmers Cocoa Butter Lip Butter

Too much butter in the title....

I purchased Palmers Lip butter about a fortnight ago as I was having a very bad time with my lips. They were cracked and dry, and my Lush lip scrub along with some vaseline were just not cutting the mustard.
I've never tried any Palmers lip products before so was interested to try it out, it claims to soften and smooth lips. Plus, the scent is dark chocolate and peppermint...yum!!

The formulation is a pretty thick clear gel.  The smell is very strong, and it's exactly like After Eight sweets. So if you're not a fan of those stay clear. It is not at all sticky or gloopy once on the lips and it adds a subtle gloss.

As for improving the condition of my lips, I was very impressed. Because of the peppermint, it felt a little tingly once I applied it, which I like because to me, it feels like it's doing something. Within a few days my cracked lips had improved tenfold and they were feeling really nice and soft. Even though my lips are now restored to their non cracked selves, I've continued to use this as my daily lipbalm as it's just so bloody delicious...

Have you guys tried any Palmers lip products?

Recently I Have Been...

Being Healthy...

If I've not mentioned it before, I'm doing Scottish Slimmers, and this week I got to 1 and a half stones off. I'm by no means finished yet, but I'm so pleased with myself it has inspired me to keep going. I've even started enjoying my exercise *shock* and I have been doing 2 hour long spinning classes a week along with 1 or 2 aquafit classes, which are really fun. So it's starting to pay off, and I'm a happy chappy.

Sleeping - A Lot

This kind of goes hand in hand with the above. All this going to the gym has made me sleepy. I literally cannot wait to climb into bed every night. On the plus side though, lots of exercise and lots of sleep is beginning to make my skin look pretty darn good!!

Buying Shoes...

I while ago I ordered lots of goodies from the Next sale and these little beauties were delivered last week. I think I am in love...

Hope you have all had a lovely week, cheers to the freakin' weekend!

You Make My Heart Sing

As you all know, over the last month or 2 I have been enjoying trying out different designs and patterns on my nails. I'd never had decent nails before (ex biter) so am completely new to this.

But here's my latest attempt...

I painted all my nails with a nude by Rimmel, used OMP by Nails Inc to do the spots on my ring finger and a tiny brush with a black Bourjois polish to do the outline of the spots. And that is the result. My friends thought I'd actually had Minx done. I would never have thought it would be so easy to create a little intricate design like this.

LRD

As in Little Red Dress...

I was perusing my local Primark the other day and came across this little number. It's my friends 23rd Birthday this weekend and I thought this would be perfect,

flash

no flash.

The flash kind of washes out the detail, but no flash doesn't show the true colour.
It has really nice ruffle detailing at the bust...

Also, a little keyhole cut out at the neck area on the back.

It sits about mid thigh and I plan on wearing it with black leggings and killer heels. Best of all, this dress was only £15. Sweet.

Fatal Retraction

I've never tried any Primark make up before, so I didn't know what to expect when I picked up Fatal Retraction - Retractable Eyeliner.

One end has the retractable liner, and the other end has a sponge smudger. You just need to twist the end to produce the liner.

The liner itself is a nice, dark black colour and it is easy to apply to the upper lash line, however does not take too well to the waterline. The major let down for me however is that it is not at all long lasting, it smudges really easily and leaves a nice dark shadow under your eyes. Not great.

This product is only priced at £2 so I wasn't expecting miracles, however there are lots of drugstore brands of eyeliners, whose prices are not much higher, but the quality is much better. I'd say next time you go to Primark, spend your £2 on a pair of earrings instead.

Have any of you guys tried Primark makeup?

Recently I Have Been....

1. Painting my nails far too much. I'm struggling to keep a polish on for one day!! I get bored so easily and want something different everyday. HELP!

2. Dying my hair. I picked up a new hair dye last weekend on a whim and decided I fancied a change. I used L'Oreal Casting Creme Gloss in Mahogany. To my disappointment, it isn't as noticeable as I'd have liked, so I think I'll pick up another redder colour soon.

3. Back on track with Scottish Slimmers. I lost 1st 2lbs on Scottish Slimmers in my first 8 weeks, and I've hovered round about the same since. This week though, I've cut out the crap and spent time planning my meals, and I'm hopeful it will pay off on Wednesday.

4. Shopping too much!!! I know, I never thought it was possible to shop too much, but I've discovered it is. Hello sad bank balance :(

What have you been doing recently?

Peachy Keen

Welcome my new favourite nail polish in my Barry M collection.

Peach Melba.

I think it is just the perfect peach colour, not too orange, not too pink. Perfect. I love the consistency of the Barry M nail paints, creamy and opaque, and this is no different. Two coats and it's perfect.

I decided to go for candy coloured nails and team this with my now 2nd favourite Barry M paint, Berry Ice Cream...

Et Voila...

What's your favourite Barry M nail paint?

Super Size

In case you are wondering...I have changed my blog name. Just fancied a change and when I first started my blog I did not really think about the name just called it the first thing off the top of my head. So I'm now World of Beauty...

Anyhoo...

I picked up this mascara last week. I don't know how new it is, I've never seen it before but I often walk around in a bubble so this does not necessarily mean anything. It was the bright pink colour of the packaging that first attracted me... (shallow, moi?).

The fact that it was only £2.99 was also a big attraction. Having tried out quite a few different mascaras over the years I think that you definitely don't have to spend a fortune to get good mascara.

The brush is also quite large and I like that. I also like that it's not a plastic comb as I really dislike these wands.

I took some before and after pictures so you can get an idea of how it performed...

Before

After

As you can see my eyelashes are definitely defined and look a lot thicker. The formula is quite wet, so there was no clumping, but it wasn't so wet that it made a mess of my eye area when I blinked.

I'm extremely happy with my little bargain buy. Have any of you guys tried this? And do you think that high end mascara equals better quality?
